Amersfoort counts as one of the most cultural influential cities of The Netherlands. Being the home to famous painters such as Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan, but also to many Dutch artists, such as Miss Montreal, Jiggy Djé and Jett Rebel. When you walk in the old city of Amersfoort, you will find yourself being overwhelmed by the beautiful canals, old builings, contrasting fantastically with the modern aspects of the town.

The "Mondriaanhuis" was the home to the worldfamous painter Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan, who is one of the founders of today's abstract art. Inside the Mondriaanhuis, you can experience how the painter lived and worked. In the exposition 'De Wereld of Pieter Cornelis' ('The World of Pieter Cornelis') you can get to know the master behind the name Mondriaan.

Amersfoort is known for its lovely canals, breathing history thoughout the entire area. You can take a guided tour in a boat through the canals. There are several tours available, such as the old city wall-route, East-route or the West-route, since there are too many beautiful things to see for them to be combined in just one tour. You can enjoy the amazing scenic views, whilst relaxing in a boat with your friends.

Amersfoort Zoo

Amersfoort Zoo is one of the most beautiful and biggest Zoos of The Netherlands, with over 1500 animals. There are lots of fun activities to do, such as the climb-route: if you follow this route, you'll eventually find yourself climbing over animals such as bears and wolves. They even have dinosaurs!

Flehite Museum

Flehite is the historical art-museum of Amersfoort. It shows the history of the city of Amersfoort and it continues to provide (inter)national art from the year 1850 to 1950. The museum is located inside the so called 'Wall-houses", referring to the old city wall that surrounded Amersfoort during medieval times.

The Hof

The Hof is the biggest town square in Amersfoort. Every friday and saturday, there is a market. There is a fountain at the middle of the square, on which there is a face spewing water. This refers to a possible dragon living under it... You can find multiple restaurants and bars at the Hof. If you want to have a look at the night-life in Amersfoort, you should definitely drop by the Hof.

The Koppelpoort is an unique combination of a land-port and a water-port, it's the only one in The Netherlands. It is part of the 'second city-wall' and was finished in 1425. It is by far one of the most beautiful buildings in Amersfoort. It was attacked in 1427 during the siege of the city. Nowadays, it functions as an unique landmark, impressing people worldwide.


During a 30-minute tour, you can discover all of the Koppelpoort's secrets. You can experience what a ringleader is, and if you enter one of the treadmills, you'll receive a ringleader-certificate!
